NATURALHY visits
Spadeadam Test Site
Spadeadam, UK, 27 April 2006
On the 27th of
April, 2006 NATURALHY visited the Spadeadam Test
Site in the north of England where large scale
safety experiments with hydrogen/natural gas
mixtures are scheduled to take place in the
following months.
For the requirements of the experiments, an 18m3
test facility is being constructed which will
comprise of arrays of repeated obstacles and
that can be configured to a wide range of
blockage ratios. The experiments will allow to
study the behaviour of accidental release of
hydrogen/natural gas release from critical parts
of the gas network and to obtain information on
the consequences that may arise from such
releases.
The experiments will be compared with available
data from similar experiments involving natural
gas or hydrogen only. Furthermore, the results
will be compared with CFD models which will
allow to establish the limits of existing
mathematical models.
The experiments are led by Loughborough
University and supported by Shell Hydrogen and
Leeds University

NATURALHY in the
Global Hydrogen Arena (September 2005)
The NATURALHY
project was formally recognized and endorsed by
the Steering Committee of the International
Partnership for the Hydrogen Economy (IPHE)
at its meeting in Kyoto, Japan on September 14,
2005. The IPHE aims at serving as a mechanism to
organize and implement effective, efficient, and
focused international research, development,
demonstration and commercial utilization
activities related to hydrogen and fuel cell
technologies. It also provides a forum for
advancing policies, and common codes and
standards that can accelerate the cost-effective
transition to a global hydrogen economy to
enhance energy security and environmental
protection. The Participation of the
NATURALHY-project in the Partnership puts the
project in the global hydrogen arena and offers
interesting dissemination and collaboration
perspectives. Projects endorsed by the IPHE
receive enhanced international visibility, first
through a respected peer review process of
project selection, and then through numerous
IPHE outreach programs. More information on the
International Partnership for the Hydrogen
Economy can be obtained at
www.IPHE.net.
Developments in
the Strategic Advisory Committee (July 2005)
